Report: Music phones outship MP3 players 2-1
Research outfit iSuppli says that the convergence between broadband Internet music distribution and the distribution of music over mobile phones is the most important trend in digital music today. According to a new report, mobile distribution presents a competitive thread to existing broadband distribution outlets, and to MP3 players. In fact, the mobile industry is shipping twice as many music phones than there are MP3 players. Digital music contributes 12 percent to the music industry's bottom line, and today is driven primarily by mobile applications like ringtones. The group points to this figure reaching 40 percent by 2010.
