Report: UI issues cost carriers $100M a year

Tools

Market research firm Strategy Analytics followed up on its recent mobile content access and discovery report, calculating that U.S. carriers miss out on more than $100 million in annual gaming revenues as a result of poor user interface designs. A panel study conducted by the Strategy Analytics Wireless Media Lab determined that Verizon Wireless fared best among consumers in terms of game download times, click-through accessibility and overall satisfaction, besting downloads from rivals AT&T/Cingular, Helio and Sprint.

"While the estimated U.S. revenue from mobile gaming is projected to be over $520M in 2007, operators are missing out on over $100M in revenue as a result of inferior usability," said Strategy Analytics' global wireless practice VP David Kerr in a prepared statement. "Improving usability across the purchasing process from content discovery, preview, billing approaches is required. Cingular received the lowest rating across all four categories: Ease of Completing the Task, Process Was Logical, The Amount of Time Taken and Ease of remembering how to do the task again. Verizon Wireless topped the user satisfaction ratings with a score of 91/100."
