RIAJ announces mobile music piracy arrests
The Recording Industry Association of Japan is ramping up its efforts to prosecute music sites accused of sharing pirated music across mobile networks. The RIAJ announced the arrests of two men alleged to operate mobile music download site Daisan Sekai (a.k.a. "The Third World")--according to the recording industry group, Daisan Sekai was not licensed to offer copyrighted music from member labels including Dreamusic Inc., Sony Music Records Inc. and Avex Entertainment Inc., although it's presently unclear whether the site is a premium venture or a file download hub. Daisan Sekai has so far attracted more than a million unique users, the RIAJ notes, adding that mobile subscribers nationwide illegally downloaded more than 399 million music files in 2007 alone.
