RIM partners with Telefonica for NFC payments pilot

Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) will team with Telefónica Spain to launch a launch a Near Field Communications-based mobile payments trial leveraging SIM-based NFC capabilities in BlackBerry smartphones. Telefónica employees will participate in the pilot program, which will roll out in collaboration with local banks and retailers--in addition to completing retail transactions by tapping smartphone against a digital reader unit, participants can also use their BlackBerry device to gain physical access to Telefónica headquarters.
