RingTales draws up deal with "The New Yorker"

Tools

New media developer RingTales announced an agreement with The New Yorker to create animated versions of the magazine's renowned gag cartoons for distribution via Apple's iTunes digital storefront. Per terms of the deal, RingTales is the exclusive animator and distributor for more than 70,000 cartoons from the venerable magazine's extensive archive--subscribers to the free, advertiser-supported iTunes podcast will receive three new animated clips each week.

"In making the transition from page to screen, we're building upon the already strong tradition of New Yorker cartoons," said the magazine's cartoon editor Robert Mankoff in a prepared statement. "It's been an absolute pleasure to see our 20th century tradition come to life in 21st century technology. It's an opportunity to expand our audience--and have fun in the process."
