Initially rolling out via T-Mobile USA under the FamilyWhere Check In brand, the app--available as a free download from Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android Market as part of the operator's FamilyWhere service--pinpoints a child's whereabouts on a location-verified map, guaranteeing they're at the school library, a friend's home or wherever else they're supposed to be. According to Safely, Family Check In complements existing teen behaviors established via location-based check-in apps like foursquare.
FamilyWhere is T-Mobile USA's version of Safely's Family Locator tool, also available under the AT&T (NYSE:T) FamilyMap and Sprint (NYSE: S) Family Locator brands. Safely reports Family Locator has now enabled more than a billion safety location checks since its inception.
The Safely suite of parenting technologies also includes Drive Safe (available as Sprint DriveFirst and T-Mobile DriveSmart Plus), the Phone Controls usage analytics service (available as Sprint Mobile Controls) and Safely Social Monitor, which offers parents insights into their kids' social network activities.
