Samsung Mobile goes to the movies

Tools

Samsung Mobile announced the launch of Samsung Movies, a dedicated cinema storefront powered by digital movie retailer Acetrax. According to the device maker, Samsung Movies will enable consumers to download and view their favorite films and television shows across compatible Samsung handsets, laptops or PCs. Downloads will available to own or rent.

Samsung Movies will offer more than 500 titles at launch--deals are in place with studios including Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal and Momentum Pictures--with content spanning from feature films like The Dark Knight and Iron Man to primetime series such as Gossip Girl and ER. Samsung said it will add another 500 titles by the end of the first quarter, bolstering its catalog with 1,000 more movies and TV shows by the end of June. Samsung Movies will first roll out in the U.K. and Germany, with other European markets to follow by year's end.
