Scanbuy teams with DuPont for barcode packaging
Mobile marketing solutions provider Scanbuy announced a joint agreement with DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers and flexible and specialty rigid packaging manufacturer Printpack to use Scanbuy's 2D barcode technology for flexible packaging applications. Scanbuy's ScanLife solution enables consumers to scan two-dimensional barcodes with a standard camera phone to automatically display a specific mobile website and launch video clips--users can then view and share that information via social networking communities. Printpack and DuPont P&IP will now offer the Scanbuy solution to customers, enabling brands to add 2D barcodes to virtually any flexible packaging surface from shrink sleeves on beverages to pillow pouches on snacks. The codes will offer consumers recipe ideas, coupon offers, nutritional information and more.

NeoMedia : Intellectual Property Licensing Update
There have been several recent announcements from Scanbuy, Inc, in regard to deployment of mobile barcode services in the United States with partners such as Sprint, Dupont, Augme and Graphic Packaging International. Given that our infringement suit against Scanbuy is ongoing, we felt it was important to communicate that we believe these intended actions are in violation of our patents, including our barcode look-up patent (U.S. Patent No. 6,199,048) which was validated by the USPTO earlier this year. NeoMedia has an active licensing program in the marketplace, however, Scanbuy has not obtained a license.
“Rules of engagement can be confusing in an emerging marketplace. We believe companies intend to be respectful of intellectual property rights, so we want to help guide parties interested in mobile barcoding towards the appropriate licensing channels to avoid delays, frustration and legal headaches down the roadâ€, stated Iain McCready, CEO of NeoMedia Technologies.
