ScanLife barcode app preloaded on Samsung Exclaim
Mobile marketing solutions provider Scanbuy announced its ScanLife 2D
barcode application will arrive preloaded on the Samsung Exclaim, available from Sprint. According to Scanbuy, the Exclaim is the first U.S. mobile handset to ship with the ScanLife app, although the firm expects its software will ship on other devices in the weeks ahead. The ScanLife app enables consumers to scan two-dimensional barcodes with a standard camera phone to automatically display a specific mobile website and launch video clips--users can then view and share that information via social networking communities. (Not coincidentally, the Samsung Exclaim will also feature social networking applications including Facebook and MySpace.)
Sprint first introduced the ScanLife service in late 2008 as a downloadable application. Scanbuy notes that thousands of Sprint subscribers have since downloaded the app to scan codes found in the operator's marketing collateral. Other consumers have created their own free personal ScanLife codes, which connect to social networking sites and contact information.
