Shazam adds 2M tracks to music discovery database
Mobile music discovery provider Shazam--earlier this week named one of the 10 most downloaded iPhone applications of 2008--announced its music database has increased from six million tracks to eight million thanks to new content partnerships and direct sourcing activities. According to Shazam, the new agreements extend its database to include additional North American, Asian and European content, with an emphasis on long-tail undiscovered music and pre-release tracks. Shazam's iPhone app enables allows users to identify music from any audio source, screen related videos on YouTube and purchase identified tracks through iTunes--users may also tag identified tracks with photos and share memories with friends. Shazam now boasts partnerships with more than 75 operators across 60 markets worldwide, including deals with AT&T, T-Mobile and Vodafone.
