Mobile discovery solutions provider Shazam is teaming with Twentieth Century Fox to launch its first movie promotion campaign, leveraging the Shazam for TV interactive service to offer viewers exclusive content from the studio's forthcoming Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked.

Twentieth Century Fox will integrate Shazam for TV interaction into its television ads for the family film, which hits theaters on Dec. 16. Smartphone owners who employ the Shazam audio discovery app to tag the Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked commercial can download a free version of the soundtrack's lead single "Vacation," view an extended trailer and additional movie clips, buy the first two Alvin and the Chipmunks features on DVD or Blu-ray from Amazon.com and purchase tickets to Chipwrecked. In addition, users can access the Shazam Friends feature to share their enthusiasm for the film via Facebook.

The Shazam mobile application pinpoints entertainment content from any source, regardless of ambient noise. After users hold their handset to the audio feed for a few seconds, the clip is run through the company's database to find an exact match. More than 165 million consumers across 200 countries now use the Shazam service.

In late June, Shazam raised $32 million in new funding, stating it would leverage the investment to support its expansion into interactive television solutions. Earlier this week, Shazam re-acquired audio recognition technology patents it sold to rights management organization Broadcast Music Inc. in 2005. Financial terms were not disclosed.
