Shazam intros special-edition charity app

Mobile music discovery solutions provider Shazam announced the launch of (Shazam) RED, a new special-edition version of its Encore premium iPhone application including additional content spotlighting RED, a project dedicated to raising funds for HIV and AIDS programs in Africa. RED launched three years ago, and in that time has generated $140 million, all of which goes directly to fight the spread of AIDS in Africa--in addition to Shazam, corporate partners include Apple, American Express, Starbucks, Converse, Dell and Hallmark. According to Shazam, it will donate 20 percent of the (Shazam) RED app's $4.99 purchase price to the organization--in addition, the application will feature a dedicated button linking users to more information on the RED effort.

Shazam Encore debuted earlier this month. Promising improved speed performance compared to the previous iteration of the Shazam discovery app, it enables users to more quickly tag and learn more about their music--in addition, users can discover music similar to tagged tracks and scan charts generated by other consumers. Shazam Encore also includes Drive and Tag, which automatically transitions the solution to car mode whenever the iPhone is placed in an in-car dock so users can still discover what's playing on the radio while driving.
