Shazam teams with USA Network to boost viewer interaction

Tools

Mobile discovery firm Shazam is teaming with cable's USA Network to enable viewers to unlock exclusive content promoting the second season of the spy drama Covert Affairs.

USA Network is integrating the Shazam for TV solution into the Covert Affairs broadcast--at any point in the show, smartphone users can access the Shazam app to view exclusive videos and photos (including on-location footage shot by series co-star Christopher Gorham), download wallpapers, share content via Facebook and Twitter. Shazam also enables users to purchase official show merchandise--a new single-button purchase option included in the tag result transports consumers to a mobile-optimized Covert Affairs storefront powered by NBC Universal partner Delivery Agent.

The Shazam app pinpoints entertainment content from any source, regardless of ambient noise--after users hold their handset to the audio feed for a few seconds, the clip is run through the company's database to find an exact match. More than 150 million consumers across 200 countries now use the Shazam service. In late June, Shazam raised $32 million in new funding, stating it would leverage the investment to support its expansion into interactive television solutions.
