Shazam tops 75 million users, 1 billion song IDs
Roughly six months after surpassing the 50 million worldwide user benchmark, mobile music discovery solutions provider Shazam announced its subscriber base now tops 75 million--in addition, users have now identified more than 1 billion songs. (The one billionth track: David Guetta featuring Chris Willis' "Gettin' Over.") The Shazam application identifies music from any source, regardless of ambient noise--after users hold their handset to the audio feed for a few seconds, the clip is run through the company's database of millions of tracks to find an exact match. Shazam's global footprint now stretches across 200 countries--the firm said it expects to cross the 100 million user milestone by the end of this year.
In addition to its music identification solution, Shazam introduced a mobile advertising program earlier this year--dubbed Shazam Audio Recognition Advertising, the solution incorporates the firm's technology into marketing campaigns to allow consumers to tag commercials. After identifying the ad the user is recording, SARA delivers a customized result directly to the user's phone. According to Shazam, broadcasters can use the solution to offer customers click-through access to branded mobile web experiences, special promotions and hidden content--e.g., exclusive videos and interviews. In addition, by capturing user profile details brands can tailor future campaigns around targeted content.
