Showtime courts Emmy voters with iPhone video app
Premium cable network Showtime is revving up its 2009 Emmy Awards campaigning by teaming with mobile video delivery and advertising network Transpera to launch a new iPhone and iPod touch app enabling voting members of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to screen full-length episodes of original series like Weeds, Dexter and Californication via mobile device. According to Showtime, the iPhone app builds on previous eco-friendly Emmy campaign efforts, largely eschewing screener DVDs in favor of offering password-protected digital content on the web and mobile platforms. According to Showtime, last year's online Emmy campaign resulted in Academy members tuning in at a rate of approximately four full episodes per member--the network also generated a record 21 nominations.
