Showtime kicks off 'Dexter' interactive mobile game
Premium cable network Showtime launched Dexter Game On, an interactive mobile game promoting the upcoming fifth season of its acclaimed serial killer drama Dexter. Developed in conjunction with location-based iPhone and Android solutions provider SCVNGR, Dexter Game On runs from July 21 to July 25 in association with the annual San Diego Comic-Con; players must tackle Dexter-themed challenges spanning across the San Diego area, checking in at various destinations culminating at a "crime scene" location set up near the convention center site. As players complete their tasks, they earn limited edition SCVNGR badges that can be redeemed for Dexter merchandise like DVDs.
Dexter Game On will also spread to gamers in the New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta and Seattle markets, with challenges customized for each respective city. Players across the U.S. will work as a hive, with a Facebook tally keeping track of completed challenges in all six cities; once the community wraps up 100,000 challenges, Showtime will unlock a never-before-seen preview of season five, available for all fans to view. The new season premieres on Sept. 26.
