ShoZu, Atlantic team for artist-generated content

Tools

User-generated content solutions developer ShoZu announced an agreement with Atlantic Records that will enable the label's artists to share video and photos with fans via mobile channels and social networking sites. Per terms of the deal, select Atlantic acts will be given ShoZu-enabled camera phones to snap and upload backstage photos, rehearsal footage and related behind-the-scenes content to their official websites, fan sites and MySpace pages--according to ShoZu, the footage may also be repurposed as free or premium promotional content for distribution over wireless networks. In addition, artists may receive and reply to fans' comments from their handsets.

Atlantic first employed ShoZu's Share-It image uploading service and ZuCasts promotional content delivery service at the recent YouTube New Year's Eve countdown, featuring label acts including Gnarls Barkley and Panic! At the Disco. "The New Year's Eve Countdown was a milestone in mobile music promotion, but it was a one-time event--this agreement will enable our artists to share video and photos with their fans in a unique and more urgent way," Atlantic general manager and EVP of marketing and creative media Livia Tortella said in a prepared statement. "In addition to providing bands the opportunity to deliver a steady stream of content to both phones and other online sources, it provides a framework for community."
