Sirius unveils premium content, dock for iPhone

Tools

Sirius XM Radio is making a serious play for iPhone users. The company yesterday unveiled a dock that will let iPhone users listen to premium satellite radio programming, including Howard Stern. In June, Sirius unveiled a mobile app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that did not include access to its premium content such as Stern's popular show and play-by-play action from the National Football League.

The XM SkyDock will retail for around $120 and will turn the iPhone or iPod Touch into a satellite radio receiver. The dock is powered through the car's cigarette adapter and can easily be connected to the car's radio system.  The dock is expected to be commercially available in the next few months.

Sirius XM is looking to boost its subscriber base, which currently stands at about 19 million. The company gets most of its new customers when people buy cars with build-in satellite radio receivers.
