SK Telecom, Sony partner for mobile movie service
Korean operator SK Telecom announced a four-year agreement with Sony Pictures Television International to deliver more than 200 Hollywood feature films on-demand to mobile handsets. Per terms of the deal, SK Telecom will offer between 50 and 60 Sony releases spanning from recent box office hits to vintage classics. The carrier will charge 1,000 to 2,000 won (roughly $1.05 to $2.10) per download, and will encourage subscribers to adopt unlimited data packages to keep costs to a minimum. "We have already been offering several Korean movies on mobile phones, but this contract is different because of the brand value of Hollywood films," said SK Telecom spokesperson Lee Kyo-hyuk in an interview with The Korea Times. "Battery life is surely a problem, and we (phone manufacturers) hope to improve the matter in the future."
