Skyfire extending Flash-enabled browser to Apple's iPad

Tools

Mobile web solutions developer Skyfire has submitted an iPad tablet-optimized version of its Flash Video-enabled browser for review by Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) App Store. Apple officially endorsed Skyfire for iPhone in late October; the mobile browser allows consumers to finally run Adobe Flash-based content on their iOS-based smartphones, working around the operating system's restrictions on the Flash runtime by translating video content in the HTML5 web standard. The browser then displays a thumbnail that iPhone users can click to stream the clip from Skyfire's servers. Skyfire for iPhone was built in accordance with Apple guidelines, leveraging a WebKit browser core shared with Safari as well as h.264 adaptive streaming.

MobileCrunch reports Skyfire for iPad will integrate many of the social media features introduced in Skyfire for Android 3.0, unveiled late last month--highlights include Facebook and Twitter QuickView, promising one-touch access to social media tools, as well as Google Reader support. Skyfire for iPad pricing is unknown; Skyfire for iPhone is priced at $2.99.
