Softbank brings Yahoo mobile to Japan

Japanese telecom giant and wireless operator Softbank, which purchased Vodafone's Japanese business earlier in the year, will offer links to Yahoo content on its new mobile phones. The Softbank deal provides a dedicated Yahoo button on the new devices that will immediately display all available Yahoo content on the phone, including the main portal, e-mail, stock prices and Internet auctions. Softbank also has an existing partnership with Yahoo for broadband services offered under the Yahoo BB brand. Japanese carriers are gearing up for a fight as number portability is implemented in the region this fall and mobile content is expected to be a major weapon in the battle.
