Sports Illustrated inks digital content pact with Turner Sports

Tools

Time Inc. and Turner Broadcasting System announced a strategic digital partnership aligning Sports Illustrated with the cable network's Turner Sports unit. Per terms of the agreement, Sports Illustrated will continue to create all editorial content across its media platforms, including its print magazine, the web, mobile and its new tablet-optimized edition--Turner Sports will now oversee business and technical operations, ad sales, product management and marketing, with the two organizations collaborating on multiplatform sales across their collective properties. SI and Turner also will partner on new mobile products and applications.

Beyond its traditional sports coverage, Sports Illustrated's digital efforts also include a recent agreement with social game developer Watercooler to launch an SI-branded fantasy football effort spanning Facebook, SI.com and SI Mobile. Per terms of the deal, Sports Illustrated will combine its fantasy sports resources with Watercooler's social technology and gaming engine--players can access SI.com Fantasy Intelligence Reports (including breaking news, analysis and advice, player performance updates, video reports and expert commentary) from their PCs and mobile devices while connecting with friends on Facebook to share strategies, celebrate wins and talk smack. Players will even earn rewards for building large Facebook fanbases to cheer their fantasy teams. In addition, the partnership will provide a new, SI-branded advertising channel for sponsors.
