SPOTLIGHT: ScanR rakes in $4.65M
I had a chance to meet up with the folks at ScanR as they passed through Washington, D.C., on a whirlwind press tour that seems to have paid off. Their first round of venture capital funding has garnered a lot of good press. ScanR utilizes mobile phones' low-quality cameras to take pictures of documents and white boards, which the company's software then cleans up. Cameras need to have 1 megapixel or more of resolution, and the company said 400 million such devices will ship in 2006. Their software worked well: The scanned documents were nearly identical to the original. Trinity Ventures led the company's $4.65 million round with backing from executives at Openwave Systems and Kodak's Ofoto. Article
