Spring Design debuts Android-powered ereader
Ereader solutions and products provider Spring Design announced the introduction of Alex, a Google Android-based ebook device boasting full browser capabilities as well as the firm's patented Duet Navigator dual screen, which offers users a monochrome electronic paper display screen alongside a secondary color LCD screen featuring dynamic hyperlinked multimedia information and web content. According to Spring Design, Alex offers full Internet browsing over WiFi or mobile networks, dynamically inserting images, videos and notes as 'web grabs' or with custom text created by the user or other secondary authors. Users also can create their own images and notes to augment the original text or grab relevant content with Alex's Link Notes multimedia authoring tool.
The Alex device features a 6-inch E-Ink EPD display and 3.5-inch color LCD display, earphones and speakers--a removable SD card will free up library space while letting users archive content for future reference. Browser features such as bookmarking, history and security settings are built in. Spring Design adds it is currently in talks with major content partners, and plans to release Alex by the end of 2009. Pricing details were not disclosed.
