Sprint announces senior executive departures

Tools

Sprint Nextel announced chief financial officer Paul Saleh, chief marketing officer Tim Kelly and sales and distribution president Mark Angelino will all leave the embattled carrier on Jan. 25. William G. Arendt, who currently serves as senior vice president and controller, was appointed acting CFO, while John Garcia, senior vice president of product development and management, was named acting CMO. Paget Alves, regional president for sales and distribution, will serve as acting president of sales and distribution. All three will report directly to Sprint President and CEO Dan Hesse. "Permanent leaders will be named in conjunction with a review of overall strategy and an effort to streamline operations," Hesse said in a prepared statement. "I have no predetermined timeframe in filling these positions but plan to act as quickly as possible as I consider both internal and external candidates."

Last week Sprint announced it would eliminate 4,000 jobs and close 8 percent of company-owned retail locations after losing 683,000 subscribers during the fourth quarter. The operator will formally announce complete fourth-quarter and full-year 2007 results Feb. 28.
