Sprint CEO talks 4G and mobile content

Tools

At the Yankee Group Wireless Leadership Summit yesterday, Sprint CEO Gary Forsee announced the carrier's plan to build out a 4G network that could achieve a "10-fold cost-performance advantage" for the carrier. While Forsee did not get specific with either the types of services he envisioned the network powering or the type of technology he planned to use for backhaul (WiMAX, maybe?), the announcement did cause a stir. As noted in today's top story, perhaps the envisioned services are simply the ones the industry is trying to scale today: Namely, mobile television. While in New York, Forsee also dropped in on Forbes for a quick interview that discusses mobile advertising, mobile TV and MVNOs.

I attended the Yankee event in NYC yesterday and my favorite quote from Forsee was later coined as "Forsee's Law" by a Yankee analyst: "The degree to which something can be advanced is the degree to which it can be mobilized." More coverage of the show in tomorrow's issue.
