Developed by Code Factory, the firm behind a series of screen reader, magnifier and Braille interface solutions, the Mobile Accessibility suite touts a simplified user interface and textual information spoken aloud via voice synthesis to aid device navigation. Users can more easily make voice calls, access contacts, compose and read text messages and email, browse the mobile web and leverage GPS to determine their current location.
Sprint will offer Mobile Accessibility for free on Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android Market later this quarter, promising versions in English and Spanish. A version targeting postpaid customers will be available under the Sprint Mobile Accessibility EN & ES brand; another optimized for Boost Mobile prepaid users will arrive under the Boost Mobile Accessibility EN & ES brand.
Sprint additionally introduced five accessibility-themed ID app bundles created by accessibility-focused developer Apps4Android in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Education's Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center for Wireless Technologies. The Sprint ID app packs--Accessibility ID, Accessible Entertainment ID, Accessible Navigation ID, Accessible Daily Living ID and Reading Made Easier ID--are available across Android smartphones including the Samsung Epic 4G, Motorola Photon 4G and LG Optimus S.
