Sprint Developer Sandbox launches at JavaOne
Sprint announced the launch of its Sprint Developer Sandbox initiative, promising mobile application developers access to tools to enable more efficient creation of location-based services, messaging apps and related solutions. According to Sprint, which announced the program at the JavaOne Conference going on this week in San Francisco, the free Developer Sandbox initiative is open to all Sprint registered developers, and will provide access to network, handset and product capabilities--the first Sandbox effort, the Sprint Network and Product Services Sandbox, promises an easy-to-use format enabling programmers to mashup existing Sprint services with other available third-party services to create new web pages and applications. Sprint said it plans to introduce additional sandboxes that highlight other specific sets of development capabilities.
In addition, Sprint said it is expanding its open location platform with three additional companies--Alcatel-Lucent, Loc-Aid and Useful Networks--to extend additional opportunities to develop new location applications. Sprint introduced the open location in December in partnership with Veriplace and WHERE. Sprint also announced that for the first time, it will open its annual Sprint Application Developer Conference to all members of the development community. This year's conference will take place Oct. 26-28 in Santa Clara, Calif. Developers may register now by clicking here.
