Sprint rolls out distracted driving app for Android

Tools

Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) officially launched Drive First, a motorist safety application the operator first announced back in March. Developed by Location Labs, Sprint Drive First enables parents to configure their teens' mobile phones via the web--the app can lock the driver's device screen and redirect all incoming calls to voicemail, as well as block text alerts and mail an automated response to the sender indicating that the recipient is presently unavailable. Drive First also can allow access to three key contacts and three apps, for example navigation tools. Sprint is rolling out Drive First across its Android smartphones, indicating plans to expand the app to Research in Motion's (NASDAQ:RIMM) BlackBerry and other operating systems in the coming months. Sprint will charge $2 per month for each device leveraging the app. Release
