Sprint upgrades mobile web browsing
Sprint announced a partnership with software applications and infrastructure provider Openwave to launch OpenWeb, an enhanced mobile web browsing experience available across virtually of its web-enabled handsets. The OpenWeb solution promises faster, more user-friendly rendering of Internet sites, even websites not presently optimized for the mobile platform, providing automatic in-page navigation enabling users to more efficiently access key data. Sprint said the OpenWeb enhancement will be automatically launched across its handset portfolio, requiring no additional consumer action. "Whether clicking through the Sprint portal or typing in a URL, both new and existing customers can use their Sprint phones to search virtually any website and it will appear quickly and in a format they're used to seeing on their computer screens," said Sprint vice president of wireless product management Kevin Packingham in a prepared statement. "By working with Openwave, we're making that Internet experience even more customer-friendly and useful by enhancing the ability to translate non-mobile sites onto the mobile phone."
