Study: Consumers want Apple iPhone
Sure, Apple still has yet to officially announce the damn thing, but a new Solutions Research Group study forecasts strong consumer demand if and when the rumored iPhone hybrid device hits retail. The study found based on the handset's probable features and services menu, 16 percent of Americans ages 12 and up believe the iPhone to be a "great idea"--women comprise 53 percent of the potential consumer market, while the average age of likely buyers is 35. Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile subscribers were most enthusiastic for the device, with African-American and Latino consumers expressing above-average interest.
According to Solutions Research Group, potential iPhone buyers download music and movies in volumes above the consumer average--29 percent of would-be buyers purchased music in the past month from a download subscription service like iTunes or Napster. The study cites the iPod image and user experience as key elements of the iPhone's appeal, while battery life concerns represent the primary barrier to adoption.
