Study: Messaging, e-mail top subscriber behaviors
According to a new report on U.S. wireless subscriber behaviors and attitudes released by market research firm comScore Networks, 50 percent of all mobile users now employ text messaging services, while 30 percent use their devices for e-mail services. However, while 63 percent of comScore respondents said their handsets offer Internet access, only 17 percent said they currently subscribe to mobile web services; among those users, 44 percent cited e-mail as the mobile web's primary draw, followed by ringtones at 35 percent.
"As rapidly as wireless technologies are evolving, so too are consumers' behavior patterns--especially in terms of enhanced functionality beyond voice communications," comScore Telecommunications Solutions senior VP Serge Matta said in a prepared statement. "Non-voice means of wireless communication--such as text messaging, e-mail instant messaging--are increasingly important to consumers."
