Survey: Operators too greedy

Tools

According to a survey conducted at the Mobile Content World conference in London this week, more than 60 percent of attendees feel that the transaction fees carriers charge to sell content on their deck are too high. Additionally, they feel that carriers should cut the typical 40-50 percent fee in half.

The survey was conducted by Valista, a mobile commerce and payment solutions firm, so some of the data might be a bit self-serving in order to promote the company's flexible billing solutions. But it does shed some light on the erratic perceptions people in this industry have when it comes to mobile data. For instance, the same survey finds that 58 percent feel mobile data revenues will contribute less than 25 percent to wireless operators' bottom lines in the next three years, despite the fact that mobile content currently contributes 20 percent to total carrier revenues. iGillott Research predicts this figure will reach 40 percent by 2009.
