Survey reveals surprising interest in local mobile TV
Almost 90 percent of mobile subscribers express interest in viewing live local news programming on the go according to a new mobile digital TV survey conducted by Magid Media Labs in partnership with the Open Mobile Video Coalition. Among more than 1,000 U.S. respondents ages 18 to 59 surveyed in November, 88 percent indicate interest in breaking news coverage on mobile, followed by emergency reports (76 percent) and weather (75 percent). In addition, 65 percent of respondents indicate they would view some form of entertainment content on a mobile device, with 44 percent saying they would watch sports programming.
Most respondents indicate they would watch mobile DTV during work hours and while commuting. Among subscribers with minor children in the household, 31 percent would give the mobile device to their child to watch in the car, and 10 percent would hand over the device to the child at home. Thirty-six percent said they would consider paying for mobile television content, and 49 percent said they would watch commercials on their device.
