AT&T acquires mobile app solutions provider Plusmo

Tools

AT&T announced its acquisition of privately-held cross-platform mobile application solutions provider Plusmo, bringing to the operator an open standards technology it says will simplify mobile application development. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Plusmo platform enables programmers to create widgets and applications using common web development standards, translating to more efficient deployment across multiple operating systems and devices. The firm has also released a series of sports widgets for the iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and S60 platforms which it says generate an average of more than 100 million mobile page views each month.

Following completion of the transaction, Plusmo will become a part of the AT&T Interactive unit and will bolster its existing application development efforts, enabling over-the-air feature updates for services including YPmobile, the wireless spinoff of its YellowPages.com property. AT&T adds that multiple subsidiaries are expected to use the Plusmo development platform to build apps and widgets that span across the mobile, PC and television channels.
