T-Mobile USA data ARPU edges up in Q2
T-Mobile USA reported second-quarter net income of $452 million, up from $350 million a year ago, and helped parent firm Deutsche Telekom beat analyst expectations. T-Mobile USA added 668,000 net subscribers during the quarter, down from 857,000 a year ago and from 981,000 in Q1--still, the operator boasted 31.5 million customers as of June 30, 4.6 million more than at the end of the second quarter of 2007, and its 12.3 percent year-over-year subscriber growth topped the 7.5 percent subscriber growth posted by T-Mobile in Europe.
During Q2, T-Mobile USA also added more than a million MyFaves customers, with a total of 6.5 million subscribers now signed up for the community service. While ARPU declined slightly to $51, off a dollar from a year ago, data ARPU enjoyed a slight increase, growing to $8.60 from $8.50 in the previous quarter. T-Mobile USA added that data now accounts for 17 percent of total ARPU.
