T-Mobile USA preloads Lookout app security tool on Android devices

T-Mobile USA is partnering with Lookout on Automatic App Security, a preloaded application designed to protecting Android smartphones and tablets against potential threats.

Available exclusively via T-Mobile, the free Automatic App Security requires no setup or registration and begins safeguarding devices right out of the box. The software leverages Lookout's Mobile Threat Network database to scan all Android apps installed to the device--the user is notified if an app is determined to be safe, and if it is targeted as harmful, Lookout supplies information and instructions for managing the threat or uninstalling the app.

T-Mobile USA will begin preloading Automatic App Security on the LG Optimus L9 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 in the coming weeks. The solution will come pre-installed on most of the operator's Android devices shipping in 2013. Subscribers may also download Automatic App Security from the T-Mobile Picks section of the Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Play storefront.

Lookout already scans more than 36 million apps for T-Mobile USA customers every day via the existing Lookout Mobile Security app, which is preloaded on most Android smartphones and tablets offered by the carrier. Lookout Mobile Security protects devices from spyware and malware, integrates tools for backing up and restoring contacts and supplies customized Scream Tones to more easily locate lost hardware. Lookout Premium, which offers additional protections like photo backup, remote device lock and content wipe, is available for $2.99 per month.
