T-Mobile USA to release Android-based Dream in October

Tools

T-Mobile USA will begin retail sales of the HTC Dream--the first commercial handset based on Google's Android operating system--in late October, The Wall Street Journal reports. Citing sources close to the situation, the Journal notes that handset maker HTC expects to ship between 600,000 and 700,000 Dream units, doubling more conservative analyst estimates--T-Mobile USA is expected to formally announce the smartphone's release on Sept. 23, with pricing yet to be determined. HTC declined to comment, but confirmed it will ship its first Android device later this year--both Google and T-Mobile likewise declined to comment.
