AT&T: Texting helps users make love connections
Forty percent of adults ages 18 to 55 who are in a relationship or dating say text messaging plays a significant role in their dating lives, according to a new consumer survey commissioned by AT&T and conducted by marketing research solutions provider Synovate. The survey reports that 68 percent of mobile subscribers admit to sending love notes via SMS, with 67 percent using text to flirt--in addition, 28 percent of consumers say they text at least three times a day with their significant other, with 52 percent saying "Thinking of you" is the most common text message received from a date or spouse.
Other noteworthy findings of the AT&T/Synovate study:
- Thirty-four percent of texters in a relationship or dating said receiving a text message prior to a first date would make them more comfortable.
- Twenty-six percent agreed that someone would be more likely to accept a first date with them if they previously exchanged text messages.
- Thirty-eight percent admitted their handset has saved them from an awkward dating situation.
- Eighty-four percent of respondents believe that text messages can sometimes be misunderstood by a date or suitor.
- Twenty-four percent cited slow response times as the biggest turnoff when texting with a date or a spouse.
