AT&T touts upgraded mobile web experience

Tools

AT&T announced the launch of its new att.net mobile browser, promising subscribers a richer, faster mobile web experience. Arriving preloaded on four new touchscreen handsets--the Pantech Reveal, Pantech Impact, Samsung Mythic and Samsung Flight--the att.net platform exploits advanced data compression from browser development firm Opera Software to enable accelerated delivery of HTML-based web pages. According to AT&T, att.net promises users three windows to the web: From the homepage, they can browse websites and assign favorite bookmarks and local search shortcuts; a second window offers location-aware local news and weather, one-click results for nearby restaurants, nightlife options, ATMs and other points of interest, and access to maps, driving directions and traffic information; and a third window delivers up-to-the-minute news, sports and entertainment headlines.

Mobile Internet services provider Motricity's mCore Platform back-end architecture and hosting solution powers att.net's user customization tools. "This is a significant advancement in personalization," Motricity chief strategy and marketing officer Jim Ryan said in an interview with FierceMobileContent.  "It provides better access to the mobile Internet through a wide range of devices." In addition, Motricity will supply management and analytics tools enabling AT&T to update mobile content and promotions in real-time. "There is such a capital constraint for carriers that they are glad to go with the model that is a managed approach," Ryan said.
