AT&T trims FLO TV pricing to $10 per month

Tools

AT&T is poised to cut the monthly price of its FLO TV-powered AT&T Mobile TV premium broadcast service from $15 per month to $10. Gizmodo reports AT&T will introduce the pricing change on Nov. 8. At present, the $15/month Mobile TV Basic package offers AT&T subscribers access to 12 channels including CBS Mobile, CNBC, Comedy Central, ESPN Mobile TV, FOX Mobile, MTV, NBC2Go, Nickelodeon and CNN Mobile. There is no word on whether the operator plans a similar pricing cut for its Mobile TV Plus package, which costs $30 per month and adds unlimited mobile web browsing, video clips and data usage.

This summer, FLO TV president Bill Stone told The New York Times its current mobile TV package is too expensive, and price cuts are planned. According to Stone, the prices Verizon Wireless and AT&T charge subscribers for their FLO-powered mobile TV efforts are too steep: "My view is that is shooting over the heads of the market," he said, adding that FLO TV parent firm Qualcomm does not set the retail prices for services offered by its operator partners. In October, FLO TV introduced its own dedicated mobile TV device priced at $249.99, with subscription services beginning at $8.99 per month.
