Taptu uncovers $9.8 million in Series B

Mobile search engine Taptu announced the completion of a $9.8 million Series B financing round led by existing investors 3i and Sofinnova. Taptu--available directly to consumers at taptu.com and to mobile publishers, portals and social networks through a suite of customizable search APIs--said the funding is earmarked to accelerate its growth on both sides of the Atlantic. The search engine enables users to search both on-portal content and the mobile web as a whole using any standard browser, with availability in English, Spanish, Italian, French and German. The firm also offers partners advertising revenue opportunities via sponsored links. In tandem with the funding announcement, Taptu named digital marketing veteran Andreas Bernstrom to the position of chief operating officer, charging him with responsibility for the company's commercial growth and formalizing its mobile advertising position.
