TeleNav launches HTML5-based turn-by-turn service

Location services provider TeleNav will introduce a browser-based GPS navigation solution optimized for all HTML5-based mobile phones, making the service available free to both developers and consumers.

Slated for launch in early 2012, the voice-guided, turn-by-turn TeleNav service touts full-color moving maps, audio directions and automatic rerouting if drivers miss a turn or exit. According to TeleNav, developers can integrate navigation tools into their mobile apps and websites by adding a single line of code, giving users one-click access to a wealth of local information. TeleNav adds it is seeking developers to test the service; click here for details.

TeleNav's HTML5 navigation service will support all major mobile platforms. Consumers are not required to subscribe to premium TeleNav solutions to access the new service. TeleNav now serves more than 26 million paying subscribers worldwide, with operator partners including Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ), AT&T Mobility (NYSE:T), Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) and T-Mobile USA.
