TeleNav launches MyTies social networking app for iPhone
Location-based services provider TeleNav introduced MyTies, a mobile social networking application enabling iPhone users to leverage
their device's personal address book and contacts to form small, invitation-only groups. According to TeleNav, users can assemble networks based on whom they wish to receive specific information and content--for example, separate networks made up of family members, colleagues or college friends. The multiple group structure enables users to more easily determine which contacts can view their messages, photos, videos and location updates--MyTies will not publically show information to anyone outside of a designated group and does connect to third-party networks, effectively slashing unsolicited content.
To create a MyTies account, iPhone users must first download the application from the App Store and then register a name, phone number and e-mail address; each account comes with 10 free credits, or "Invites," to bring contacts into a designated social group. Moving forward, TeleNav will sell additional Invites via in-app purchases priced at 10 cents each.
Earlier this week, TeleNav unveiled TeleNav Connect and TeleNav Share, a pair of APIs enabling developers to connect their mobile and web applications to the firm's turn-by-turn navigation and location sharing solutions. TeleNav Connect touts a seamless process for launching location-based services from within an application, supplying information to guide users to specific locations, while TeleNav Share API offers users tools to more efficiently send an address from a website or a mobile application directly to their handset.
