Tellme launches mobile search suite
Voice-recognition systems developer Tellme Networks--acquired by Microsoft a month ago--announced a new mobile search suite enabling consumers to seek out local businesses via speech and text. The free service, which enables local business search by business name or category, offers users access to listings and maps as well as movie tickets, ringtones, news and sports; callers may request and receive desired information either by voice or by text message, with the Tellme by Mobile service offering a combined voice and visual search platform including driving directions.
"Tellme's vision for mobile search is simple--you should be able to just say what you want and get it," said Tellme CEO Mike McCue in a prepared statement. "We want people to be able to search from any phone the way that works best for them. The phone was designed for speaking rather than typing, so we focus on the natural phone interface--your voice."
