THQ acquires Universomo
Interactive entertainment developer and publisher THQ announced its acquisition of mobile game development studio Universomo Ltd. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Based in Finland, the five-year-old Universomo is best known for titles including "Rollercoaster Rush," "300: The Mobile Game" and the "LEGO Star Wars" series; its proprietary game development environment and automated porting solution supports all major mobile platforms. Following completion of the deal, THQ Wireless will release the Universomo-developed titles "WWE" and "Stuntman: Ignition."
"Bringing cross-platform mobile development capabilities in-house is a key component in our growth strategy," said THQ executive VP of worldwide publishing Kelly Flock in a prepared statement. "The combination of Universomo's award-winning creative development skills and their proven porting solution will enable new technology efficiencies for THQ Wireless, giving us the scalability to focus on building both our cornerstone brands and new, owned properties across Europe, Asia and North America."
