Thumbplay launches D2C digital music store
Mobile entertainment destination Thumbplay announced the beta launch of a full-service digital music store promising consumers millions of full-length, DRM-free songs optimized for wireless download to MP3-enabled phones, portable media players and PCs. According to Thumbplay, MP3 downloads are priced at 99 cents per song on a monthly subscription basis--for $9.99 per month, customers are given 10 credits for use toward any content on the service, with new customers awarded 10 bonus credits in their first month of service. Thumbplay adds that deals with major labels Universal Music Group and EMI Music are already in place, as are agreements with independent digital music providers The Orchard and INgrooves--additional partnerships are reportedly in the pipeline.
