Thumbplay Open marketplace debuts
Mobile entertainment destination Thumbplay announced the launch of Thumbplay Open beta, promising independent content owners the tools to upload, manage and sell their digital media directly to mobile subscribers. Thumbplay Open targets independent music and visual artists as well as site publishers and application developers, delivering the means to sell mobile downloads from any website, application or widget--users generate income from every new subscriber that comes into the Thumbplay service, averaging between $5 and $8 per new subscriber. Thumbplay Open will in time expand to include games, mobile applications, videos and full-track downloads.
Besides making content available via Thumbplay's own sites, the Thumbplay Open service extends media sales to partner sites including AOL, MSN Mobile and iLike.com--artists are also given access to promotional tools like customized widget creation in order to reach consumers via social networking sites, blogs and other web destinations. Users may also embrace the Thumbplay GET program, which enables fans to text "GET" plus the artist's name to an assigned shortcode to download content directly to their handsets. In addition, developers and site publishers may access APIs and feeds for rich integration.
