Thumbplay rakes in $18 million in Series E
Mobile multimedia content portal Thumbplay raised $18 million in its Series E funding round, according to a regulatory filing reported by peHUB. Listed shareholders include Softbank Capital, i-Hatch Ventures and Verizon Investments. Thumbplay previously raised in excess of $35 million, including an unannounced $17 million Series D round completed last summer. Thumbplay membership-based, community experience offers subscribers ringtones, wallpapers, games and text-based services--operator partners include AT&T, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, Sprint and Alltel.

Thumbplay announced on Monday, March 17th that it had closed an $18M Series E round of funding to accelerate growth, expand its direct-to-consumer product offerings and to expand internationally. The investors are Brookside Capital Partners, the public equity affiliate of Bain Capital, and Cross Creek Capital, a private equity affiliate of Wasatch Advisors.
