TomTom extends travel apps to Go Live portable navigation devices

Tools

In-car location and navigation technology firm TomTom introduced the Go Live 1535M portable navigation device, integrating a series of popular location-enabled mobile applications optimized for travelers. Drivers may now access services like Yelp, TripAdvisor, Expedia and Twitter to access restaurant reviews, find nearby hotels and tweet their scheduled arrival time without exiting the vehicle. TomTom also will integrate its own apps like Local Search, Fuel Prices and Weather Forecasts.

The Go Live 1535M also touts TomTom HD Traffic, which supplies real-time traffic information and rerouting instructions across all major and secondary roads within the U.S. Additional features include voice recognition tools, spoken street names, advanced lane guidance and maps of North America. The device is expected to reach retailers in October, with a MSRP of $249.

TomTom sells its navigation products in more than 40 countries. The company announced its WebKit-based, touchscreen-enabled Go 1000 Live device in the spring of 2010, at that time indicating plans to collaborate with third-party developers to offer new applications integrating location-based data.
